Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women

Attachment

This advanced training module is part of ongoing learning and development for the foster care role. The topic for this module is attachment issues for children and young people subject to child protection intervention.

Information for trainers

  • This module may be conducted one-on-one or in a small group.
  • It is a three-hour workshop that has been developed for child safety officers and non-government foster and kinship care service support workers to present to foster and kinship carers. It comprises four information sessions (with PowerPoint slides), guided discussions, brainstorms and handouts.
  • There are two parts to the assessment of the training:
    1. personal reflection designed so carers can reflect upon the relevance of attachment theory to their role
    2. written assessment to ascertain the extent to which the content of the training has been understood.

Attachment was developed by Dr Clare Tilbury and Dr Jenny Osmond from the University of Queensland.
