Queensland Youth Week (QYW) is an annual celebration of young people aged 12 to 25 and the positive contributions they make to Queensland communities. In 2020 the week was held from 1 to 9 April.

This year's event was impacted by the public safety response to COVID-19, but we are thrilled that we could continue to promote the message that young people are doing incredible work in the community.

The theme for QYW 2020 (QYW20) was Yeah the youth!. The theme was a call to friendship, strength and unity between young people and a celebration of who they are and what they offer to our great state.

Our artwork competition winner and runners-up have been announced. Congratulations to 16 year-old North Ipswich artist Hanna Jones, who was awarded the top prize! Hanna's artwork was featured in all promotional materials for QYW20 across the state.

QYW20 grant recipients were also announced. Communities across the state will benefit from 25 youth-focused projects that were funded as part of QYW20.

Queensland Youth Strategy

In 2017 we released the Queensland Youth Strategy following the largest youth consultation ever undertaken for a Queensland strategy. Over 1,200 young people told us what was important to them.

From that feedback we developed 4 Building Blocks which form the heart of the strategy:

  1. Supporting our most vulnerable young people
  2. Housing
  3. Healthy futures
  4. Educating into employment.

Young people also told us they want to continue to have input into matters that affect them. We launched the Youth eHub in 2017 as a platform for young people to engage with government.
