Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women

For students

We have opportunities in both city and regional locations and across a range of service areas.

Applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis and due to high demand, we cannot guarantee that all requests can be met.

If you are successful in securing a placement with us, criminal history screening processes apply, including blue card and yellow card screening where applicable.

If you have lived in New Zealand for a period of 12 months or more in the past 10 years additional screening may be required.

We do not accept requests from international students for student placements or work experience.

If you are seeking paid employment please visit the Smart jobs and careers website.

  • Student placements

We provide student placements for students currently enrolled in degree studies that contain a mandatory placement component to satisfy curriculum learning and study outcomes.

  • Student work experience

We provide unpaid work experience opportunities for a set period of time to assist students transitioning from study to work.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cadetships

We offer cadetships so Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students gain valuable work experience in a field relevant to their degree and receive financial support for their studies.
