Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander careers and training

We are looking for staff who have the cultural knowledge and skills that can help the department provide better services and programs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Your work can make a difference to the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Queensland.

Your skills and cultural knowledge can help the department become a better human service agency by improving the way we deliver our policies, services and programs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We offer a number of specialised positions such as identified or specified positions that require the applicant to have an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and societies.

Graduate opportunities

We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to apply for positions in the Graduate Development Program that are advertised in June or July each year and commence in early February.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cadetship Support Program

We offer cadetships so Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students gain valuable work experience in a field relevant to their degree and receive financial support for their studies.

Cultural leave

We are committed to cultural diversity and support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff through cultural leave. Cultural leave allows Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff to take special leave to celebrate religious or cultural observations such as NAIDOC.
